My Alimentary Adventure: Day 6

One of my favorite movies is the original Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows, based on the book by Lucy Maud Montgomery. As a young girl, I was infatuated with Anne – her free spirit, extensive vocabulary, and ever-steady sense of self. I wanted nothing more than to be a brilliant, passionate, ginger-haired woman with a bright future and a firm sense of who I was and what I wanted from the world. It’s probably why the only color I’ve ever dyed my hair is red. There’s a quote from Anne’s mentor, Miss Stacy, that has stuck with me through the years.

“Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it… well with no mistakes in it yet.” – Miss Stacy

This quote is especially useful today, as I have slipped off-track on my health journey. Not only did I oversleep and not exercise, I barely ate. Worse than that, I ate cane sugar!

Before I go down the dark spiral of berating myself for today’s glitches, I remind myself that I can start again tomorrow. Today’s mistakes affect tomorrow, but they don’t keep me from making better choices. Tomorrow I will get up before 10:00 am. Tomorrow I will eat a complete breakfast. Tomorrow I will take a few minutes to practice yoga and meditate at home. Tomorrow I will start fresh and stay positive. Tomorrow has no mistakes in it yet. And, as Miss Scarlet would say, “Tomorrow is another day.”

Today I ate:

  • Breakfast/Lunch – bacon and GT’s Synergy “Gingerberry” kombucha
  • “Dinner” – GF brownie from Among Friends and pork rinds

Today I exercised:

  • Cleaning around the house

Today I felt: Very focused

I woke up super late amidst some really crazy dreams. Finally dragged myself out of bed around 1:00 pm and threw some bacon in the oven before turning on my computer. I did complete some chores I have been putting off (bills, appointment rescheduling, etc.), but then slipped down the rabbit hole of the internet researching gut nutrition and nutritionists. On the recommendation of a friend, I made an appointment for next week to meet with Colleen McCarthy, who refers to herself as an integrative dietitian. We’ll see how that goes!
